81 Days

Well I have done a fantastic job at writing Blog posts of my 100 day countdown, so here we are at day 81, Victoria Day, one of the last long weekend, left.

So what has happened over the last 20 odd days?

Well I got out of hospital on May 4th and spent a week at home resting up, did some walking as running is not on the cards for a little while. The ribs are still sore as of today, but the implant site is only sore in the early morning before I am out of bed, suspect that is due to no moving much when I sleep and the area tightens up.

I went back to work, ‘twas a good thing I was bored as lifting is out so I cannot do any housework around the house, very things like vacuuming etc. Cooking is ok though along with sitting on the deck in the sun having a beer or two along with a G&T.

I have almost completed a pretty long post that gives more details of the event.

99 Days to go, May 2nd 2019

Here we are, this will be the 3rd full day in the hospital.

It’s a wet day outside, supposed to snow later which makes me a little concerned about tomorrow, the, yes tomorrow I will be going to Edmonton, I was hoping it would have been today, but I assume someone is higher up on the urgency pool than me.

So I spent the day sitting in bed, did a little work and went back and forth to the bathroom as needed, that is all I amallowed to do, yep no running around ICU to me.

I actually feel a little guilty being in ICU and taking up a bed, I have not been able to get around that much, but I can see enough to see that there are a number of very sick people in here and although my situation is of concern, I don’t feel in a critical or fragile state.

So the plan is early tomorrow morning, around 4am, I will be woken up and transported by ambulance to the airport were I will be taken by plane to Edmonton to have the ICD fitted. Later in the day I will be flown back to Grande Prairie and back to ICU for the night.

So with 99 days to go, my day has been very low key and restful.

100 Days to Go, May 1st 2019

This is the start of the hundred day countdown to retirement, as of writing this I am wondering what 100 days I will be using, let me explain.

As I countdown to retirement there are two dates I am working towards, no pun intended.

The first one is when I will be done in the office prior to my vacation and using up my personal days.

The second date is my actual retirement day which is September 16th, this is the official day and although I will have never been off prior to this date for close to four weeks, it is a day I will be going into the office for to go through the last day process of handing in my keys, emptying my office and, in my case, disable my computer accounts.

So today is a celebration day, the last 100 days of working for GPPSD, but as you will see I have plans for the future which will involve me doing some kind of work, and what that will be is unknown right now.

I had written the above a while ago, waiting for the day to come so I could post it, was not expecting to be posting it from a hospital bed, in ICU as well.

Ventricular Tachycardia is what the diagnosis is and I will be off to Edmonton on Friday to have a ICD implanted which should help me and enable me to continue to run, although I think it will take me a while to get the courage up to actually run.

So, Day 100 is bittersweet, but it is what it is and I am alive, I will do a post about the whole event next week.
